Google Closes Stadia Games & Entertainment Division! – For a moment we discussed one of the big companies besides Microsoft namely Google, recently Google has announced that it has discontinued and closed the Stadia Games & Entertainment division where the division is responsible for developing exclusive games for the Stadia platform.
Reported from The Googlepage, the division consists of two different studios, one in Montreal which includes a team from Journey to the Savage planet developer Typhoon Studios, and another in California.
Additionally reported from Kotaku (via Neowin), news of the closure began circulating since last week, with Google apparently cancelling any projects not set for release in the near future, and with this closure, at least 150 employees in the two studios mentioned had to find new jobs with Google trying to direct them to new roles within the company.
On this subject, Phil Harrison, Vice President and General Manager for Stadia, recently uploaded a blog post revealing how Google plans to go forward, where they reportedly want to focus on developing a more sophisticated platform.
“In 2021, we’re expanding our efforts to help game developers and publishers take advantage of our platform technology and deliver games directly to their players. We see an important opportunity to work with partners seeking a gaming solution all built on Stadia’s advanced technical infrastructure and platform tools.” writes Phil Harrison.
Even so, it is not yet clear how this plan will go, so let’s just see how it goes in the future.
