Microsoft Presents Office Viewer Feature in Microsoft Edge Chromium For a Small Percentage of Users – Microsoft has released Microsoft Edge Chromium Dev 92.0.873.1 which in addition to presenting a number of improvements for users, it turns out that based on the rumors circulating, a number of users have obtained the Office Viewer feature on their browser.
Yep, this feature is exactly as reported last month, where with this feature users can open Office files both Word, Excel and PowerPoint, directly without the need for other Microsoft Office /Office applications installed, in addition users will not be redirected to the Office Online page.
This feature is reportedly inactive by default, where users are required to enable the option”Quickly View office files on the web using Office Viewer”which users can access in Edge Settings > Downloads.
After that, users can try to open downloaded Office files without the need for any other applications and services.
Pretty cool isn’t it, and of course this feature will be very useful for users who don’t have a Microsoft Office license, or don’t like the Office Online service. Although of course this feature only works to view the contents of the file, not to create and edit it.
However, again it is worth saying that currently the Office files on the web using Office Viewer Quickly View option is only available to a select few users, or as we usually call it still released as part of A/B Testing, where only a small number of users get it..
